The writing desk “rottnest” is an expression of the Australian life I led throughout my twenties — the place where I spent most of my time and where my heart still belongs. It draws deep inspiration from the Indian Ocean landscapes I visited almost every day.

The entire design and construction are built around the concept of lightness — both visual and functional. The drawer carcass floats between two slender stretchers, while the tabletop rests on sharp, clean legs. Together they create the impression of a surfboard gently riding the surface of the sea. The flowing grain on the tabletop echoes the rippled patterns of a sandy beach shaped by the waves.

Under a vast blue sky, sunlight dancing on clear water, the rhythmic sound of waves, and the salty scent of the wind… This piece is filled with the memories of those precious beach days that still live inside me.

このライティングデスク「ロットネスト」は、私が20代の頃に最も多くの時間を過ごしたオーストラリアでの暮らしとライフスタイルを表現した作品です。 当時、ほとんど毎日通っていたインド洋の風景から、強いインスピレーションを受けています。

視覚的にも機能的にも「軽さ」を最も大切なコンセプトに据え、デザイン・製作を行いました。 引き出しの胴体は2本の細いストレッチャーで吊るされ、天板はシャープで潔いラインの脚によって支えられています。まるでサーフボードが海面を滑るように浮かんでいるかのようです。 また、天板の木目は、波によって描かれた砂浜の柔らかな模様を映し出しています。

青い空の下、澄んだ水にきらめく陽光、波の音、風に運ばれる潮の香り……。 この作品には、私が毎日通っていたビーチでの大切な思い出が、静かに詰まっています。
